What does moonies do, and why would I use it?
moonies is your restaurant's memory. Recipes, agreements, suppliers, changes, allergens, everything that now lives in people's heads, notebooks, loose documents and the group chat, in one place where you can find it again.
The value isn't in storing it, it's in finding it back. Your team looks things up themselves, even mid-rush. The knowledge stays in the place, even when someone leaves. And you no longer have to be the linchpin for everything.
Why would I pay for this if I already keep everything in documents and notebooks?
You can, and for a while it works. Until you're looking for something and it's in the wrong version of a Word file. Or in a notebook someone took home. Or in the head of someone who's just taken a day off.
Documents and notebooks store things, but they don't make anything findable. And they walk out the door when people leave. moonies keeps the knowledge in one place, searchable, owned by the place, not by a person or a folder.
I don't have time to set this all up. How much time does it really take?
We get that, which is why we help you. For the first 30 places we set things up together in person, so the basics are right without you spending evenings on it.
You don't have to do everything at once either. You start with what you need most, your key recipes and a few agreements, and the rest grows along as you work.
What's the point of a recipe bank in an app?
A recipe that lives in an app you can scale without a calculator, search by ingredient and link to your food cost. You see per dish what it costs and what it brings in. Your shopping list rolls out automatically. And you keep your HACCP up to date as you work, not as a chore afterwards.
That's where the real challenges in hospitality sit: time and margin. By making it visible you save both, money and energy, so you have time left for the things that are actually fun.
Why this product?
A few things we care about come together here.
Allergens belong in one place, not scattered around. There should be no doubt about them.
Anti-burnout: a place that runs on people being constantly reachable wears people out. moonies catches a big part of those questions, so a day off can actually be a day off.
And we care about cutting food waste. We'll build features for that later, but first we want to be a solid foundation.
Why are you building this?
SanneI worked in hospitality for fifteen years, on the floor and as a manager. I know what it's like to get a call on your day off about something that could have waited. And how unhealthy it is to always be 'on', when stepping back is exactly what's good for you. That's where moonies comes from. You'll still get the odd call, of course. But a big part of those questions you can catch by simply having the knowledge somewhere. And the recipes side, because I know where the challenges in hospitality are, by making it easier and clearer you save money and energy, and keep time for what really matters.
ThomasFor me it's about honesty towards small business owners. Making things easy. A small place deserves access to automation that simplifies its work too, so you can compete with the big operators who have the money for expensive software. Making that possible, that's what I do it for.
Who owns my data, and is it safe?
You do. What you record belongs to your place, and you can always export it. Stopping? Then you take everything with you.
moonies is hosted in the Netherlands, so your data stays here and is well secured.
What does it cost?
A fair price per part, and each part is complete on its own. All prices exclude VAT. You're never lured into anything, you pay for what you use.
